Level 1 |
Hardly know how to pronounce English words: Reinforce guiding skills and practise speaking through repetition. Can Hardly follow instructions or answer questions (e.g. asking about their names, how they are doing…etc) |
The major focus in this level is teaching the letters of the alphabet and sounds. Students find it increasingly important in order to be confident to pronounce words. |
Level 2 | know simple words (e.g. apples, happy…etc), but cannot use them in a sentence/to express themselves. |
In this level, repetition is still required to reinforce phonetic awareness Students completing these levels should know basic vocabulary word for animals, fruits, home object, colors and ordinal number (1-20). |
Level 3 |
Can start to communicate ideas familiar to them, but can expect inconsistency in accuracy (e.g. answered “I’m good”, but said “I eat apple today” ) Tend to give one-word answers most of the time, unable to provide full sentences as expression Are acquainted with the present tense, e.g. he is, they are; I like, she likes. |
Students that complete this level are able to use basic sentences (subject verb object). For example, John kicks a ball. Vocabulary building focus still on nouns (objects). Basic verbs, such as kick, run, play are introduced. |
Level 4 |
Pronunciation is OK Sentences might lack of conjunctions (e.g. I like orange… it’s good) No use of complex sentences Limited knowledge about time tenses (but can use simple past tenses: even if they don’t remember to use it, they can usually correct themselves if consultants point it out) Much more familiar with the present tense. Beginning to familiarize themselves with the past tense. |
Students that complete this level have enough vocabulary to express basic feelings and emotions. |
Level 5 |
Confidence is OK Struggle with sentence structure Likely to sound as if they’re memorizing sentences from textbooks, instead of expressing themselves as freely as they’d like to (expressions restricted) Confidence using the past tense. Getting acquainted with the future tense. A good foundation with prepositions. |
Students that complete this level are able to express a variety of ideas in a more accurate and clear manner. |
Level 6 |
Can express in a more fluent manner Can expect grammar mistakes Good pronunciation Know quite a few vocabulary Increased confidence using continuous tenses and can distinguish between main tenses. |
Students that complete this level are now capable of describing things that are related to their everyday life and can hold a conversation with more confidence. They have the ability to read and understand basic subjects. They are also able to talk about events in the past. |
Level 7 |
Can carry out everyday conversations Little pronunciation mistakes, unclear intonation at times Get familiarized with present perfect tense and past perfect tense. |
Students that complete this level have successfully built up a strong knowledge of grammar. It is also useful to introduce synonyms, antonyms, or words a student already knows that can be effective for getting meaning across. |
Level 8 |
Has been learning English for a period of time Can start to form complex sentences Teach them about formal/informal use of terms (form different sentences under different situations: cultural differences) Have a good foundation of tenses - very confident subject/ verb agreement . Introduction: active / Passive. Listening still have problems- as they can be overwhelmed in a conversation. |
Students that complete this level can now share their opinions while supporting them with details and examples. At this level, they should also be encouraged to use superlatives and comparisons more naturally. |
Level 9 | Clients that complete this level have the ability and knowledge to discuss an array of both familiar and unfamiliar topics. They can carry on a conversation with a native speaker, utilizing expressions, vocabulary, and sentence structures. They know how to correct themselves when speaking. They have the ability to manage almost all normal life functions in an English speaking environment with little difficulty. | Students that complete this level have the ability and knowledge to discuss an array of both familiar and unfamiliar topics. Level 10 |
Clients that complete this level have a strong vocabulary and can recognize many English expressions and idioms. They can direct conversations and assess what they need to learn more about. They know how to participate in a wide range of debates, even if they are not familiar with the topic, and can express their opinions with ease. Their vocabulary is such that these clients can easily substitute words that share the same meaning. They have studied almost all grammar patterns, and will be able to use simple and more complex relative clauses. They should also be comfortable in using a wide arrange of subordinate conjunctions. At this level, students should also be able to read and understand articles in newspapers and magazines. This is encouraged by supplementing students vocabulary bank. |

Level 11 or 12 | Clients that complete this level have an impressive understanding of academic and colloquial vocabulary and expressions. These clients’ speech is fluent and accurate. They can convey complex ideas and information and can confidently discuss a wide range of topics. They have the ability to maintain their own point of view in a debate and can participate in negotiations by formulating persuasive speech.
